Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs)

Beth yw ELSA?

Mae Cynorthwyydd Cymorth Llythrennedd Emosiynol (ELSA) yn gynorthwyydd addysgu arbenigol sydd â phrofiad helaeth o weithio gyda phlant. Mae ELSAs yn cael eu hyfforddi a’u goruchwylio’n rheolaidd gan y Seicolegwyr Addysg yn yr awdurdod addysg lleol. Mae ELSA yn berson cynnes a gofalgar sydd eisiau helpu’ch plentyn i deimlo’n hapus yn yr ysgol ac i gyrraedd ei botensial addysgol. Eu nod yw cael gwared ar y rhwystrau i ddysgu a chael plant hapus yn yr ysgol ac yn y cartref.

Bydd ELSAs yn helpu plant i ddysgu deall eu hemosiynau a pharchu teimladau’r rhai o’u cwmpas. Gallant ddarparu amser a lle i ddisgyblion feddwl am eu hamgylchiadau personol a sut y gallant eu rheoli.

Who is the ELSA?

Mrs Delyth Lewis and Mrs Ruth Rees are the named person responsible of delivering ELSA at Ysgol Gymraeg Pontardawe.

What is an ELSA?

An Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) is a specialist teaching assistant with a wealth of experience of working with children. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by the Educational Psychologists in the Local education authority. An ELSA is a warm and caring person who wants to help your child feel happy in school and to reach their potential educationally.  Their aim is to remove the barriers to learning and to have happy children in school and at home.

ELSAs will help children learn to understand their emotions and respect the feelings of those around them. They can provide time and space for pupils to think about their personal circumstances and how they can manage them.
